The very idea of wearing your winter wardrobe in the heat of summer is absurd, right? Then why is it that we tend to treat our skin exactly the same season to season? Believe it or not, whatever is happening outside the house has an effect on what’s happening to our skin. Today, we’ll talk about the ways you should tweak your skincare routine to stay one step ahead of whatever summer throws your way.
Exfoliate. You should exfoliate every season, but summer presents the opportunity to ramp up your use of peels and scrubs. Incorporating exfoliation into your routine will help prevent clogged pores, reduce pore size, and leave your skin with a healthy glow. Exfoliate in the morning to help your makeup last longer, and follow up with an SPF afterward, as freshly exfoliated skin is more prone to sun sensitivity.
Moisturize. Moisturization is also important no matter the season, but with all the heat and humidity of summer, who wants to apply a heavy cream? Serums offer a lightweight alternative to give your skin all the same nutrients without feeling heavy and thick. If you’re feeling especially dry, intensive masques can be applied up to twice a week to quickly increase your skin’. You can also hydrate throughout the day with a revitalizing toner spritz at your desk, in the car, at the gym, or wherever you find yourself!
Protect your eyes. Summertime sunshine can be harsh on your delicate eye area. This is one of the most common places for sunburn to occur, which is the largest cause of premature wrinkles and other signs of aging on the skin. Not to mention all that squinting in the bright sun! Stay ahead of under eye lines and wrinkles with a targeted eye treatment, and use UV blocking eyewear as often as possible.
Protect from UV rays. It goes without saying, but somehow we still see sun damage even in our younger clients! Simply applying sunscreen is not going to cut it; you must apply enough, and reapply frequently. Studies show that most people do not apply nearly as much sun protection as they should. Slather sunscreen on before you head outdoors, and re-apply every two hours. Try to stay out of the midday sun from the hours of 10-4 whenever you can.
Consult an expert. A spa facial involves deep cleansing, exfoliation, and moisturizing. They can help to correct any issues you may have with your skin already while also minimizing fine lines and wrinkles. An expert esthetician should be your first go-to for all your skincare needs.
